National Chicken Wing Day: Where to Order in Central Virginia

Richmond Chicken Wings

July 29th, 2021 is National Chicken Wing Day, and our real estate agents are the first to admit that we don't need any excuse to celebrate this particular occasion. If you happen to be in Central Virginia in time for the holiday, we recommend these top spots for wings in Richmond and the surrounding areas.

  • The Cocky Rooster - 2523 W Main St, Richmond, VA 23220
The folks at The Cocky Rooster know a thing or two about chicken. You can order your wings fried, smoked or boneless, and drenched in finger-licking sauces like spicy honey butter, garlic parmesan, and of course classic mild, medium, or hot. The Cocky Rooster is just a short drive from these Richmond homes for sale, and they even have vegan wings for plant-based diners!

  • Brew Craft Bar & Kitchen - 6525 Centralia Rd, Chesterfield, VA 23832
A cozy gastropub with tasty bar food and 30 rotating beers on tap, Brew Craft Bar & Kitchen is a perfect spot to sip a cold one and tear into some wings. Their super-crispy chicken wings come doused in buffalo bourbon or sweet Thai chili sauce, with a side of bleu cheese for dunking. They also make some of the best beer-battered onion rings in town and are located mere minutes from these Chesterfield homes for sale.

  • Flyin' Pig - 13560 Waterford Pl, Midlothian, VA 23112
With a laid-back bar and grill vibe, Flyin' Pig is a great spot to relax and mow down a dozen savory, perfectly crispy wings. Located a stone's throw from these Midlothian homes for sale, Flyin' Pig hickory smokes their wings and serves them up with any of their 10 signature sauces. Choose classic buffalo sauce, honey BBQ, pineapple teriyaki, or 'waiver wings' so hot you have to sign a waiver before eating them.

  • Legend Brewing Co. - 321 W 7th St, Richmond, VA 23224
No one can deny that Legend Brewing Co. makes some of the finest craft beers, ales, and lagers in town. But their wings are also next-level. They're grilled and dry-rubbed to perfection, and they taste great dunked in Porter BBQ sauce and washed down with a Legend IPA. Legend Brewing Co. also has a spacious deck and beer garden that will make you want to stay for another round.

  • Hurley's Tavern - 4028 Cox Rd, Glen Allen, VA 23060
A beloved local watering hole with some of the best-elevated pub grub in town, Hurley's Tavern makes some seriously tasty wings. They're perfectly crunchy and crispy, and you can order yours any of 10 sauces or six dry rub seasonings (maple-bacon and Memphis BBQ are perennial favorites). Make it a 'Wings and Rings' combo with the addition of onion rings! Hurley's is just minutes from these Glen Allen homes for sale.

  • HogsHead Cafe - 8902 W Broad St, Richmond, VA 23294
Although HogsHead Cafe is known for barbecue first and foremost, they also happen to serve some of the best wings in Richmond. Their jumbo spice-rubbed wings are cooked to juicy-yet-crispy perfection before being slathered in sauce and served with bleu cheese and celery. Sauce options include classic buffalo and BBQ, along with their signature Fiery Hog Sauce. Go ahead and order some loaded tater tots on the side. You won't regret it.

  • Brother's Pizza - 25809 Cox Rd, Petersburg, VA 23803
With a name like Brother's Pizza, you expect a menu full of great pizza and Italian favorites. But they are on this list for a reason, and that's because of their wing zings. Available in orders of 6, 10, or 20, these crispy fried wings make the perfect appetizer for your Italian meal. Or get their appetizer sampler to try other appetizers along with the wing zings. Either way, you're in for a treat! Plus, their location is close to many Petersburg homes for sale.

Broadway in Richmond is Back

Broadway in Richmond

The delights of the Broadway stage can be found just minutes from Richmond homes for sale at the historic Altria Theater, located on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University. Our real estate agents eagerly anticipate these upcoming productions that include dramas, comedies, and musicals.

  • Anastasia
Anastasia sweeps viewers away to the exotic locales of the one-time Russian Empire and Paris of the 1920s. A young woman known as Anya races to escape the clutches of a Soviet officer while on a quest to uncover her mysterious past. Along the way, she joins forces with a whip-smart conman and a charming former aristocrat. Written by Terrence McNally, award-winning playwright of Master Class and Ragtime, Anastasia runs October 26-31, 2021.

  • Come from Away
Out of the tragic events of 9/11 came this triumphant story that forms the basis of Come from Away. When 7,000 airline passengers found themselves stranded in a small town in Newfoundland, residents opened their homes and hearts to the total strangers. This unlikely scenario ultimately forged strong friendships that continue to this day. Come from Away runs February 1-6, 2022.

  • The Lion King
The cinematic phenomenon gains a new dimension on the stage in The Lion King. As an animated feature, the story of lion prince Simba and his journey to fulfill his destiny captured the imaginations of kids and adults around the world. The stage production features the same blend of drama and whimsy, as live actors perform the iconic songs composed by Elton John and Tim Rice. The Lion King runs March 9-20, 2022.

  • My Fair Lady
George Bernard Shaw's classic play Pygmalion inspired My Fair Lady, a much-beloved show that's been called "the most perfect musical of all time." Across the decades, audiences have been caught up in the endearing odd-couple relationship of plucky Eliza Doolittle and pompous Henry Higgins. As you leave the theater, you'll find yourself humming timeless tunes such as "The Rain in Spain" and "Get Me to the Church on Time." My Fair Lady runs May 31-June 5, 2022.

  • Mean Girls
Tina Fey focuses her razor-sharp wit on the relatable topic of high school cliques in Mean Girls. Returning to the United States after a childhood spent in Africa, Cady Heron must learn to navigate a different kind of wildlife found in a Midwestern high school. Can Cady bring down the ironically-named Plastics without falling prey to their vicious tactics? Mean Girls runs September 20-25, 2022.

About the Altria Theater

Located just west of downtown Richmond, right across from historic Monroe Park, the Altria Theater is the crown jewel in the city's performing arts complex. The 3,565-seat venue opened in 1927 as an "entertainment palace" and meeting place for the Shriners fraternal organization.

Originally known as the Mosque, the theater was designed in Moorish Revival style, featuring dramatic minarets and desert murals. The City of Richmond purchased the Mosque in 1940, conducting a complete renovation in the mid-1990s.

In addition to Broadway productions, the Altria hosts a wide range of popular events, from concerts and comedy shows to lectures and school commencement ceremonies. Celebrities who have performed at the renowned venue include Frank Sinatra, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis Presley, and Bruce Springsteen.

Whether it's live theater, movies, or museums, Richmond's cultural scene offers something for everyone. Contact us at Napier ERA to learn more about the attractions and amenities found around Richmond.

Learn How to Keep Your Pets Safe on National Pet Fire Safety Day

Pet Fire Safety Day

July 15th is National Pet Fire Safety Day, making it a perfect reminder to revamp your family's fire safety plan to ensure your four-legged family members stay safe. Our real estate agents know that a little preparation makes a big difference in your family's safety. Check out these tips to keep your pet safe from a house fire.

  1. Install Monitored Smoke Detectors
Monitored smoke detectors are usually installed in a home as part of a security system. With a monitored smoke detector, emergency services are notified about the fire, even if you aren't home. If you're concerned about a fire breaking out while your home is unattended, a monitored smoke detector can help protect your pets by shortening the response time of first responders.
  1. See That Your Pet is Used to a Crate or Leash
During a fire, you'll need to quickly evacuate your pet. The easiest way to do so is by putting them on a leash or in a portable crate. However, if your pet has never been exposed to a leash or crate, they'll likely freak out if they're expected to tolerate these items, especially during the stress of a fire. Check that you have a secure way to transport your pet and that your pet is comfortable with that method. Make sure that you always know the location of your pet's leash or crate.
  1. Put Decals on Your Home to Alert First Responders
If a fire breaks out when you're away, first responders won't know that your pets are inside. Prevent this problem by placing a rescue alert stick on your front door. This sticker first responders know that pets are inside of the home and tells them what pets they're looking for.
  1. Create a Fire Evacuation Plan
Your family needs a fire evacuation plan to ensure everyone gets out safely. Assign each pet to a specific family member. Ideally, assign the pet to a person with who they're likely to be in close proximity and that they're comfortable with. Make sure that each family member knows their assigned pet's favorite hiding spots so they can quickly locate them.
  1. Take Steps to Prevent a Housefire
Keep your pets safe by making a few changes that prevent the likelihood of a fire. Richmond homes for sale that have certain safety features are also likely to attract potential homebuyers. Check that all the electrical cords in your home are secured; unsecured cords often look like toys to curious pets. You can even conceal them with a box or fixture designed to contain and hold cords. See that your pets can't reach or access the knobs to your stove, and avoid leaving candles unattended around your pets. Or, swap your candles for flameless alternatives.
  1. Have Your Pets Microchipped
In the chaos of a housefire, a frightened pet may get loose or hide outside. Have your pets microchipped and regularly check that the information is up-to-date. If someone finds your pet, they'll be able to quickly get them back to you.
